(1946 – July 4, 1990) Controversial advocate for the homeless. A former advertising executive, he abandoned his wife and children so he could hitchhike across the country. When he was convicted for grand theft auto, he met Philip and Daniel Berrigan in prison. He started to participate in hunger strikes and work stoppages involving prison rights. In 1973, he joined and later led the Community for Creative Non Violence (CCNV) in Washington, DC. He made homelessness CCNV’s main mission, staging demonstrations, public funerals and hunger strikes in an effort to force the District government and private institutions to create shelters. He committed suicide in 1990.

The FBI has sent Fox 5 several letters regarding Snyder’s file. Most recently, the FBI asked Fox 5 to provide the agency with Snyder’s obituary to prove Snyder had died.
