(March 20, 1920 – February 5, 1997) Washington socialite and diplomat. The daughter of an English baron, she married Winston Churchill’s son in 1939. After they divorced, she engaged in numerous affairs and marriages with prominent men, including Edward R. Murrow, Jock Whitney, Prince Aly Khan, Baron Rothschild and Averell Harriman. She moved to Washington, DC in 1971, where she became the predominate socialite and hostess for the Democratic party. She was appointed US Ambassador to France in 1993 and died in Paris.
