(July 29, 1938 – August 7, 2005) Anchor of ABC’s World News Tonight. A high-school dropout from Canada, he became the sole anchor of ABC’s evening newscast in 1983. He died in 2005 from lung cancer and posthumously received Canada’s highest honor, the Order of Canada.
