Find a mate in 2008!
DC hot spots to meet single guys  (not where you might think)

by T.C.

Do you ever wonder how some women seem to find the good men effortlessly? Is there a juicy secret they know about in the DMV?  Are you tired of looking for love in all the wrong places?

Well, it's a brand new year with new possibilities.  Why not try my hand full of new places to meet DC's bachelors?  So, take a deep breath, open your mind and check out these not so predictable ways to hook up with eligible men. Plus, each of these activities are good for you, so you'll have a win-win situation whether you end up with a man or not. Not bad...

1. PLAY BALL!

News flash: Men love sports!  Check on a local bowling team in your area.  And even if you don't like sports, maybe you have a young child who wants to play football, basketball, soccer, etc.  When I enrolled my son in a sports program, I met plenty of guys who were either teaching the kids, or single parents with their son in the program too.  The rest is easy.  Sit there and bond while the kids play ball.  Touchdown!

2. MUSIC LOVERS

* I love my job!  As a radio personality, I attend countless concerts in the DC area.  Have you been to the Capital Jazz Festival?  Music is a great conductor of love and togetherness.  No wonder concerts are packed with brothers!

* A friend of mine once took a temporary job as a seating hostess at a local theater.  When concerts played at the venue, she met loads of great guys.  Plus, getting to see and hear shows for free was a bonus.

*Don't forget about music stores. Guys are in there searching for CDs or the latest wolfers and tweeters for their stereo system.

3. HOME DEPOT HOOK-UPS

This home-improvement chain is such a hot spot for man-meeting potential that, until now, I've only given up the secret to close girlfriends.  In fact, when I walk up in there (sometimes in sweats and sneakers),  I have to beat 'em off with a stick...or is that a wrench?  Anyway, they all want to help you find something.  There is ALWAYS an abundance of available guys roaming the aisles for tools, fixtures, wood -- and dates. The store even offers do-it-yourself classes on home repair projects.  Let's face it, men are looking for independent, self-reliant women who can fix things and take some of the pressure off of them.  Plus, they figure if you're shopping at Home Depot or Lowes, you may own your home, and that takes the pressure off too!

4. HIS DRINK & HIS TWO-STEP

Don't worry.  I wouldn't dare suggest the cliche' meeting place:  the club!  But I am suggesting that you get your dancing shoes on and sign up for a little instruction in the art of hand dancing.  I've been promising myself this one for years, and I finally took the leap and found classes not far from home, and on nights when I can actually show up.  While you're at it, consider taking other classes too.  Anything from car maintenance to judo, wine tasting or cooking (yes, real men do cook).

5. HE'S A TRAVELIN' MAN

On the Metro?  Yes, the Metro!  Also, trains and planes.  OK, airports are a hassle these days, but all that hustling and bustling can actually be a breeding ground for, well, breeding! I met a great guy on an airplane and it turned out to be a networking, business affiliation that benefited us both. It's all about attitude and a healthy dose of confidence.  It doesn't even have to be a long trip. Back to public transpo - countless couples have hooked up riding the subway or bus to work. Score one for the Metrorail!

The point is, look for an overlap between your everyday activities and interests, and what might intrigue men.  It's a great way to learn something new, have some fun and create an opportunity for meeting exciting people.  So get out there and make it a positive new year.  You just might find your soulmate in 2008!
