Ladies:  Mind your own business!
by T.C.

Have you promised yourself that THIS year, you'll finally start your own business?   I'm willing to bet that you daydream on the job about finally telling your boss where to go, and doing your own thing.  Speaking of the boss, does he/she give you a disapproving look when you leave work (on time) to get the kids from daycare or when you miss a day to tend to your sick child?  Maybe it's time for your business card to read "president" or "CEO."  Wouldn't you like to be the H.S.I.C. (Head Sista in Charge) in 2008?

The potential benefits for women working for ourselves are flexible hours, more time with our family, the joy of creating something of our own and controlling our own destiny.  Downsizing and layoffs are at an all-time high, and there is no such thing as job security anymore.  That's the bad news.  The good news is that women are changing the face of America's economy!  The Bureau of the Census reports that women-owned businesses are increasing in number, diversity and earning power.  As women expand their companies, they contribute to the growth of our national economy.

So is the time right for you?  Take the quiz.

Ask yourself:

*  Do I live in fear of being laid off?

*  Am I tired of working my rear end off to make someone else rich and successful?

*  Do I want my work to be more meaningful and challenging?

If any of these statements describe you, then it's time to do for self!  How to begin?
