MICHEL'S M LIST...
Week of Dec. 17th
Michel Wright is host of the most listened to midday show in the DMV on WPGC 95.5. Also a very busy voice talent, she can be heard on the BET-J Network as well as many national commercials such as Colgate, Mercedes Benz and Kodak.
In addition to her terrestrial radio show, Michel is part of the XM Satellite channel Suite 62 and has been recognized with a proclamation from the DC City Council for her work with youth through her Neighborflava Foundation.
SHOP: Yeah I know I'm usually shopping for clothes and shoes and telling you where to spend less money for Manolo's and how to cop that Coach bag for less cash but we gotta shop for more than clothes right?! Don't answer that question just follow me on over to Crate and Barrel so you can hook up your home too! Crate and Barrell has all you need from furniture to housewares and some stuff ya never thought you'd HAVE to have. They pride themselves on the 3 P's which are People, Product and Presentation. They hit that mission trifecta with all high marks for me. My fav location is the big bad building at Tysons but do your own search and find the right spot for you to shop.
FOOD: Ain't ya heard that small is the new big?! And eating a little less sometimes is good for you so why not go to one of the many restaurants around town that serve up small meals on tiny plates - go for tapas tonight. Yep tons of tapas bars and restaurants are springing up all over the DMV which might make narrowing your choice a bit of a challenge. Lemme getcha started at one of my firsts called Oyamel. It's right in the heart of downtown DC on 7th Street just a couple of blocks from Verizon Center. Even if you order just about everything on the menu like I did, nobody will have to roll you outta there since portions are not what we Americans have gotten used to. I tried this shrimp with red chiles and onion dish with a side of mini grilled chicken soft tacos with a side of shredded chicken enchiladas with a side of ... well you get the picture (I wanted some of everything as I felt especially famished LOL). Anyway wash down your tapas buffet with a sparkling wine cocktail or try one of their specially made flavored waters. You'll leave not feeling too full or too broke or too woozy. Oyamel will leave you feeling just right!
DRIVE: Whooooo Wheeeeee the MINI Cooper is so much fun to drive! This little machine has personality, looks and guts. You've been noticing a lot more MINI's on the road lately right?! Uh huh because we are all a little more budget conscious with the rise in gas prices and the economy issues that make stretching a dollar harder and harder. So MINI Coop to the rescue with no compromise on quality for affordability. After all MINI is made by BMW so you know you're getting some high quality and you're still gonna get some speed since we know ya like fast cars. There's a race track at the location in Sterling, VA so you can test the power and performance of your new MINI.
TECH: If that new phone seems a little out of reach for your pocketbook don't fret. There's still something in the tech department that hasn't gone out of style, is still useful, still sought-after and not terribly expensive. I'm talking about the still cool iPOD. Yep the APPLE people never cease to amaze in their continuous roll-out of tech items that everybody's gonna wanna have. Now you and me both probably ran out an got an iPOD right away when it first came out and now you look at that thing and it's all big and bulky and doesn't even have a tv screen to watch videos or movies or other podcasts so it's sitting on a shelf somewhere like a museum display. Go on and upgrade to one of the new ones. I just bought a bunch of NANO's which are now 2nd generation - very thin, very lightweight, and very very cool with mini tv screen and all. You can get 'em in a lot of colors and either 4gig or 8gig, they're so cute. They'll be great as Christmas gifts but docking station is not included hahaha and ho-ho-ho to you.
CHILL&CHAT: If you need a place to unwind after work and if you're still smoking (yeah literally) then go for cocktails and cigars at OZIO. It's in midtown DC near that K and Connecticut corridor and it's the go-to spot for puffing on a stogie with some of the power-players in the area. As some famous rapper once said, "...this ain't a place for the faint of heart." Know whatcha want, be confident with who you are and bring your Black card if ya got one. For real though you ought to check out Ozio which is swank and sexy and perfect for enjoying that Cuban cigar with a glass of Veuve Clicquot.
READ: Naww this one hasn't made Oprah's book club list yet but it might be something to definitely add to your collection. It's that time of year when we spend a little too much and get ourselves in a little bit of a financial squeeze so I thought I might offer some help from Harrine. Local author & financial consultant, Harrine Freeman wrote a book called "How to Get Out of Debt" and I think it'll be useful for you. See Harrine was once $19,000 in debt while only making $21,000 a year but she got out of debt without filing bankruptcy. That information alone should convince you that she knows her stuff and has been successful at following her own advice. Don't get caught in that debt trap this year. Go get Harrine Freeman's step by step guide on credit repair and financial stability. After all, don't we all want high FICO's?!
LAUGH: Heard any of these lines: "You got me crying!" or how about "Oh my stomach is hurting!" or even "My cheeks are killing me!" All those are signs that someboy has a sense of humor that brought out the best in you. If you wanna get your laugh on in DC then go over to the legenday IMPROV on Connecticut Avenue in NW. It's one of 16 IMPROV's in the country and serves as temp residence for some of the funniest people on the planet. Yep most all the great comics of our time have rolled through those doors. Look 'em up, make a reservation, eat, drink and definitely be merry while you laugh your blank off LOL!
