Cleansing the Body
I was helping a customer in my family’s shop the other day, and they had a list of slightly odd items that they needed. Now, growing up in a health food store and interacting with various types of people from different walks of life can prove to be a very unique experience at times. The customer needed organic lemon juice, organic cayenne pepper, organic grade B maple syrup and a laxative tea. (Some of you out there may know exactly what I am talking about while others might be scratching their heads.) Over the past two years the requests for the above ingredients has steadily risen due to the growing popularity of the Master Cleanse. The Master Cleanse is basically a fasting cleanse where you mix the ingredients together and consume the beverage over the course of a week or two. This cleanse is designed to rid the body of toxins and essentially give your intestines/colon a good cleaning.
This all ties into my topic today because I feel that cleansing the body is a KEY component to a healthy lifestyle. There are many reasons to do a cleanse, but one reason NOT to do a cleanse (as I’ve heard countless references to this) is to cleanse to simply lose weight! Once again, there we go trying to find that ever elusive “Quick Fix”. Will you lose some weight doing a cleanse? Yes, you probably will. But think about this, if you were to simply consume nothing but apple juice for two weeks you’d probably lose a few pounds too! Cleansing the body is not meant to get you into that dress or lean you up for the upcoming summer. Simply put, as soon as you go back to eating, a rather important undertaking, your going to put the weight right back on. I personally feel that cleansing the body is absolutely essential to a healthier body and I try to do 2 to 4 cleanses a year. I like to cleanse when we’re shifting between seasons, so I take “Spring Cleaning” to heart. If you think about it, we have to flush out and change the oil of our cars every X amount of miles. I think that the same routine should be applied to our bodies as well. You see, you can always replace your automobile if it breaks down, but you can’t replace your body!
Cleanses come in various forms such as capsules, powders, teas and some, like the Master Cleanse, require you to mix certain ingredients together. I personally like using capsules simply due to the ease of use. Renew Life is a company that has cleanses in capsule form and they come highly recommended, (www.renewlife.com). The main reason I am a big fan of Renew Life is that all they focus on is your gut; cleaning it properly and having it operate at maximum efficiency. They don’t make vitamins for energy and a multiple vitamin and supplements for weight loss. No, they simply focus on your tummy! I recommend their First Cleanse which is a two week program. Regardless of which cleanse you choose from, just look at it for what it truly is intended to do, and that is to cleanse and detox the body. NOT to help you lose 35lbs by next weekend! So if you’ve been thinking of doing a cleanse, I strongly suggest that you take action and follow your gut instincts, (no pun intended), and give it a try. If you are already aware and practice cleansing, keep it up! Whatever you do, just don’t do a cleanse to simply lose weight because you will be missing the boat altogether.
