R.A.R.E: Rekindle and Amazing Remarkable Experience
When most people think of Howard Homecoming, they don’t exactly think of work, rather fun, laughs, celebrities, and class reunions. However, for me, working during this event got me one step closer to all of the action and of course I have all of the excitement exclusively for you.

“I’m so glad I go to Howard U and not A & T…” As the band blasts over the crowd, we all chime into the tune hitting North Carolina A & T where it hurts, with our school pride!
Welcome to Howard University Homecoming 2007 “R.A.R.E: Rekindle and Amazing Remarkable Experience”.
Returning home this year, Howard opens its arms to students, faculty, staff, alumni, the DC community, and even more guests from all over the nation.
The Gospel Show kicked off the week with soulful headliner Cheryl "Coco" Clemons, former singer with the R & B Group SWV, and a tribute to Richard Smallwood, honoring him for his contributions to Gospel music.
Next, Howard returned to royalty with “Sankofa” in the 2007 Homecoming Pageant, crowning Edward Williams and Brittney Brooks as Mr. & Miss. Howard University.
Several other events packed the week with lasting memories. From uncontrollable laughs at the Comedy Show, models showing off new threads in the Fashion Show and smooth ballads from R & B star, Tank, Howard University Homecoming 2007 had a something fun for everyone.
The highlight of the week was the Hollywood themed parade, teeth clenching game, and the battle of the Greeks in the step show.
Bow and Omarion served as the parade Ambassadors and Grand Marshals this year and Chaka Khan severed as the Mistress of Ceremonies for the parade and game. Other celebrities caught on the scene include, P. Diddy, Tyson Beckford, Talib Kweli, J Holiday, Hurricane Chris, Taraji P. Henson, Bethann Hardison, Stephen Nichols and Melissa Ford.
On the field it was a close call as the Howard University Bison beat the North Carolina A & T Aggies, 35- 27, just minutes before the buzzer in fourth quarter. The stadium was packed and the crowd went wild to a flashy halftime show by both marching bands.
Finally, the moment we’ve all been waiting for, the 2007 Howard University Homecoming Step Show which gave a peak into the realm of the Divine 9 through its’ theme, “The True Howard Story”. All of the participants displayed creative stunts, precise movements, and represented their organizations with pride, but this year Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Beta Chapter and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Alpha Chapter won first place. While the reigning champions of the 2006 Step Show, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., Alpha Chapter and the Alpha Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., won second place. Fonzworth Bentley served as the host keeping the show moving, energetic, and full of unadulterated swagger.
All in all, the 2007 Howard University Homecoming experience truly captured the feeling of Bison love, family, and tradition.
