Women:

No More Drama: Nine Simple Steps to Transforming a Breakdown Into a Breakthrough (Paperback)

In this compelling book, empowerment specialist Sil Lai Abrams shows how she was able to transform a devastating emotional breakdown into a profound spiritual breakthrough by using the nine basic principles of the Self Empowerment Principles In Action process (or SEPIA for short). SEPIA is a revolutionary new way of thinking that will enable you to stop surviving from crisis to crisis and start living a drama-free and purpose-driven life. Using nothing more than a pen and a piece of paper, SEPIA s simple method of self-inquiry empowers you to radically change your perspective on life, yourself, and others one clear step at a time. Writing with extraordinary openness, Abrams shares her personal experiences with overcoming drama such as alcoholism, domestic violence, chronic depression, and sexual assault to demonstrate the benefits of practicing the SEPIA principles. Artfully blending spiritual teachings with heart-wrenching personal stories, No More Drama vividly illustrates how you can transform your personal breakdowns into courageous breakthroughs. If you have ever struggled with feeling powerless and victimized, No More Drama and its nine-step SEPIA process can help eliminate the drama from your life and empower you to create an authentic and inspired reality!

From Superman to Man

Men:

From Superman to Man, JA Rodgers  (Hardcover)

J.A. Rogers immigrated to the United States in 1906 and became a naturalized citizen in 1917. Despite his light complexion and mulatto background, Rogers bitterly discovered that Black people were all treated the same, no matter the complexion. Rogers, however, rejected the dogma of white superiority, even as a child. In a class and color conscious Jamaica, the young Rogers observed, "I had noticed that some of my schoolmates were unmixed blacks and were, some of them, more brilliant than some of the white ones." Rogers grew up around Blacks who were physicians and lawyers--graduates of "the best English and Scottish Universities." This realization that the doctrine of white superiority was contradicted by the talent and expertise of Black intellect inspired Rogers to begin his research into the Black experience.

Children:

I Dream for You a World: A Covenant for Our Children (The Children's Covenant) (Hardcover)

Kindergarten-Grade 5—This picture book addresses 11 socioeconomic issues, including health, education, justice, wealth, and the environment that pertain to African-American children and their families. Illustrated with collages of smiling youngsters on abstract backgrounds, each spread has a brief poem that begins, "I dream for you a world." The text itself is slight, with significant information given in the foreword and in the densely packed appendix. While this is a useful introduction to "issues of importance" as identified by Tavis Smiley in Covenant with Black America (Third World, 2006), most children will need adult assistance to sort out the specifics of becoming Covenant Kids. This book raises awareness of many problems in society, and the specific action statements are empowering but not age specific. Children can learn their history and make a family tree, but suggestions such as supporting black colleges and buying computers are beyond their reach. This picture book may be best used by caring adults who want to share their dreams of a better world for all.
